Hodgkinson News
Hitting the headlines for all the right reasons isn't a new experience for the team at Hodgkinson, especially MD Ian Hodgkinson.

He's something of a celebrity these days after appearing in the Sky television series 'Renovation Creation' making over a Victorian house in Liverpool with former Big Brother winner Craig Phillips, helping the BBC's Diarmuid Gavin produce the Art House Garden in Nottingham, supporting the launch of Craig Phillips' new building skills centre in Liverpool (Cherie Blair performed the opening ceremony),
and presenting a paper on health and safety in the construction industry at a major conference attended by top government minister Patricia Hewitt.
Locally, he's even better known for his big heart, especially when children want help.

Among other things, Ian has sponsored Smalley Juniors football club, supported Ladywood FC and Eastwood Town FC and Wells-Next-The-Sea FC in Norfolk, and put up cash to help stage a charity pantomime to pay for a trip to Disneyland for a Nottingham girl suffering from a brain tumour and to help youngsters affected by acts of terrorism, particularly the London tube bombings.
Early in 2008, Ian played a leading role in the first campaign of its kind in the world designed to improve the quality of life for victims of Charles Bonnet Syndrome - a condition that causes blind and partially-sighted people to see phantom visions. Many spend their lives under a black cloud because they do not feel able to speak about their hallucinations for fear of being thought to be in the early stages of mental illness.
Ian was praised by the partners behind the initiative - the Rotary Club of Hope Valley and Sheffield Royal Society for the Blind - for funding the awareness-raising publicity materials.
He told the partners: "Hodgkinson's have always had a policy of putting something of their success back into the community. We heard about the campaign and did not feel it could be ignored. What price do you put on giving somebody peace of mind?"
