TV role for Derby businessman Ian.

Pride Park businessman Ian Hodgkinson featured in a Christmas-time episode of ITV's popular ‘Sixty Minute Makeover‘ programme alongside first-ever Big Brother winner Craig Phillips and members of the cast of Coronation Street.

Ian was asked to help with a makeover at a special needs school in Manchester which included refurbishment of the playground to give it a Coronation Street theme.

Craig and Ian, who have worked together on other television programmes, were given an hour to build and cap a brick wall to represent part of the bar area in the Rovers Return - and got a thumbs-up for their efforts from actress Bev Callard, who plays the pub's flighty landlady, Liz McDonald.

“Bev takes a special interest in this school and the youngsters love Coronation Street so it was a fairly obvious theme to adopt,” said Ian this week. He is pictured (left) with Bev Callard and Craig Phillips.

After completing the brickwork project, Ian toured the real Coronation Street set and watched filming of an episode in the Rovers bar.

“I was surprised how small everything was,” he said. “My other memory will always be of the cast who were absolutely brilliant and very friendly.”

Ian admits that he couldn't resist taking a close look at the quality of the brickwork on some of the Coronation Street properties while he was at the studio and says with a smile: “It did leave an awful lot to be desired.”
