New jobs follow £multi-million contracts win

Hodgkinson have landed contracts worth £3million in the space of just three weeks - and that means around 70 new jobs for local bricklayers, quantity surveyors and project managers.

“Considering that we are still in the grip of an economic downturn, this has to be brilliant news - not only for the company but also for people with skills in this part of the world,” said managing director Ian Hodgkinson this week.

The contracts are to build a hospital in Gloucester, schools at Uppingham, Bolsover, Warwick and Hollingwood, a hotel in Chesterfield, and a department store in Birmingham.

Mr Hodgkinson revealed that his company was also about to close a number of other major deals - but declined to give further details.

“Our recent successes have been phenomenal and there are certainly more to come - so much so that we have established another specialist division within the company to respond to increased demand for our services,” he said.

Business award-winning Mr Hodgkinson recently hit the headlines when he told some larger companies in the construction industry to stop whingeing about the credit-crunch, get off their backsides and battle for new contracts.

“I don't believe the recession is over but I know there is work out there if you really want it and are prepared to work for it,” he said.

Mr Hodgkinson, whose recent business successes include Derbyshire Chamber's ‘Entrepreneur of the Year’ title, enjoys an enviable reputation for fighting the corner for the construction industry and those in it who need a helping hand, especially those now affected by illness and young people looking for their first steps on the career ladder.

Hodgkinson's new division will tackle specialist projects - like its recent ‘one-off’ construction of the Steve Bloomer memorial plinth and the Lionel Pickering entrance at Pride Park - ranging from just a few thousand pounds to £1million. A feature of the division will be to provide opportunities of various kinds for the company's apprentices.
